Hello all,
Our final week in the Summer of Service is now upon us. With that in mind, there is only one primary service opportunity this week:
CCA Pantry – On our final week with the CCA Pantry, our Homebuilders class will be serving. If you would like to be part of this opportunity, please contact Jason at jason@riverside-church.org.
If you have any stories from your time serving at one of these events or if you want to let us know about other service projects that are going on, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Hello all,
We are coming close to the end of our Summer of Service. This week will be a particularly light week in service opportunities. However, we do encourage everyone to attend the County Fair this Sunday, August 9, at the church as we begin to raise awareness for ChristianWorks and the upcoming auction.
Kids Eat Free – This coming week will be our last week at Kids Eat Free. Lisa is in need of more volunteers to help during our normal Wednesday and Friday times. Contact Lisa Gould (lisa@gouldsplace.com) if you would like to help.
CCA Pantry – We will not be serving at the CCA Pantry this week. We will resume on August 19.
Project BackPack – Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with Project BackPack this year. Because of your efforts we were able to supply all 100 filled backpacks that were requested as well as a good deal extra for any needs that might arise during the year. We will be delivering these backpacks to the schools this week. If you would like to help in that process please contact Shirley at Shirley@riverside-church.org.
If you have any stories from your time serving at one of these events or if you want to let us know about other service projects that are going on, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Everyone (individuals, small groups, families, etc.) is invited to meet at 5:30 pm in the Family Life Center for this time of service. Following that there will be a Kid’s Adventure event for kids in 2nd to 5th grades on the front lawn of the church.
Keep Coppell Beautiful – Wednesday, August 5, is our final Keep Coppell Beautiful event. We will meet at the church at 7 pm and head to a local park to pick up trash. Families with children are welcome. We will see you there.

Hello all,
Well, our service schedule picks back up this week with several opportunities that are available. We hope that you will consider helping with one of these ministries.
Card-Writing Ministry – Our second meeting of the card-writing ministry will be this coming Wednesday in the church library at 7 pm. Our focus this week will be to write notes of encouragement to men and women who are taking part in missions both domestically and around the world.
Kids Eat Free – We have our normal Wednesday and Friday times at Wellington Place this week. Contact Lisa Gould if you would like to help.
CCA Pantry – After a one week hiatus we resume our weekly service at the CCA Food Pantry. Our HomeBuilders class has volunteered to serve there this week. If you would like to help, please contact Jason (jason@riverside-church.org).
Project BackPack – Thanks to your generosity, we have given out all 270 of the school supply tags for this year. Thank you so much for your willingness to serve in this way. There are two things that we would like to remind you of:
- We are still in need of backpacks. If you can afford to help by donating a new backpack, please put those in the bins in the foyer along with the supplies.
- All backpacks and supplies are due back no later than Sunday, July 26th. Supplies should be returned in a shopping bag along with the apple tag.
Thank you for your help in this wonderful ministry.
If you have any stories from your time serving at one of these events or if you want to let us know about other service projects that are going on, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Hello all,
This coming week is one of our lighter service weeks this summer. However, there are several things to be looking out for in the coming weeks.
Kids Eat Free – We have our normal Wednesday and Friday times at Wellington Place this week. So far things have gone well. Contact Lisa Gould if you would like to help.
CCA Pantry – Our service at CCA Pantry has been cancelled for this week due to an annual inventory that is going on. We will resume on July 22nd. Contact Jason (jason@riverside-church.org) if you have questions.
Project BackPack – Project Backpack has officially kicked off for this year. We are asking for your help in donating backpacks and school supplies. In the church foyer you will find “apple” tags that list out specific supplies that we need. The price of the supplies on each tag should be around $10. Feel free to take one or more of these tags, buy the specific items (no substitutions please), and then bring them back to the church by July 26. On that day we will bring the supplies to the front of the auditorium and pray over them in service. Thanks in advance for your help.
There are two dates to keep in mind for Project Backpack:
July 26th – All supplies should be returned to the church building. We will have a special time of prayer that day.
August 2 – We will meet in the Family Life Center to put the backpacks together and pray over them again.
If you have any stories from your time serving at one of these events or if you want to let us know about other service projects that are going on, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Hello all,
We have a full slate of service activities for this week. Please consider being a part of one of these upcoming opportunities:
Keep Coppell Beautiful – For the past few years, Riverside has been active in helping to clean up our community by partnering with the city’s Keep Coppell Beautiful program. On Wednesday, July 8th we will meet at the building at 7:00 pm in order to go out into the community and pick up trash. On this particular evening we are inviting families with children to come out and help. Be sure to dress for the for the heat. We look forward to seeing you there.
Kids Eat Free – We have our normal Wednesday and Friday times at Wellington Place this week. So far things have gone well. Contact Lisa Gould if you would like to help.
CCA Pantry – One of our wonderful Impact groups has offered to volunteer this week at the Pantry. If you have interest in helping with this and have not already signed up, please contact me (jason@riverside-church.org) and I will let you know if they are in need of extra help.
Project BackPack – This Sunday, July 5th kicks off our Project Backpack for this year.

Hello all,
I wanted to update the information for this week since there have been a few changes. Also, if you follow this link to the Summer Service Calendar you will find an updated calendar. Please note that there have been a few changes.
Kids Eat Free – This week we will only be serving food at Wellington Place on Wednesday. Contact Lisa Gould if you would like to help.
Church-Wide Cookout – This Wednesday, July 1 at 6:30pm we will be meeting at Central Park in Lewisville for a church-wide cookout. Everyone is invited. We will be having hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks. We are asking people who can to help us by bringing desserts. Please join us for this relaxed time of fun.
CCA Pantry – Due to the fact that this week is our Church-Wide Cookout we will not be serving at CCA Food Pantry. We will resume our normal service next week. If you have interest in helping with this in the future and have not already signed up, please contact me (jason@riverside-church.org).
Project BackPack – On Sunday, July 5 we will be making an announcement about our participation in Project BackPack, our annual effort to supply community children with school supplies. There is a great need this year and we are glad to be given the chance to help. We will soon have tags available in our foyer that describe specific supplies that we are needing. You will then be given the chance to take one or more of these tags, buy the items, and then bring them back to the church on July 26. Thanks in advance for your help.
If you have any stories from your time serving at one of these events or if you want to let us know about other service projects that are going on, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Hello all,
I wanted to share these thoughts from Ron Bower who organizes our frequent blood drives. The first is his reflection on why we do this ministry at Riverside. That is followed by his report from our June 28 drive. Thank you to everyone who participated in this ministry.
“I thought I’d give some thoughts on why I give blood:
- It is an easy way to give service to others. There is always a need for blood and this allows us to easily give it.
- It doesn’t cost anything and you get a free shirt. I was at camp last week, and I wore a blood drive shirt every day. By Friday, the kids were asking me about giving blood.
- I give because I have friends and family who have had to get transfusions in the past.
All of the reasons above aside, there are two real reasons that I give and am in charge of the Riverside blood drives:
- I had to sit in a doctor’s office that was full of children. All of these children were suffering from cancer. There was a flyer on the table about the need to give blood and the good that it did these children. After that, I found myself giving blood every chance that I could.
- I had a friend whose son needed blood and had to wait to get it because they didn’t have any available.
If you’ve never given blood, I’d encourage you to give it a try. If you’ve given before, I’d encourage you to give again.”
A report from our last drive:
We had a successful blood drive today. We ended up with 33 pints from about 44 donors. This drive was done ‘on the fly’ since it was summer. Carter was looking for us to fit in an extra drive and this one went very well.
Our next drive: September 13th in the Family Life Center.
